Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities' Gordon Ney Jewish Film Series begins Sept. 7

Truth First Film Alliance, Inc. is proud to be a co-sponsor of the Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities' Gordon Ney Jewish Film Series 2025

The series kicks off Sunday, Sept. 7 and runs through Oct. 5th. This year three outstanding narrative films and a documentary will be showcased at the Figge Art Museum Theater, 225 W. 2nd St., Davenport, Iowa.

Sept. 7“Bad Shabbos.” Davis and his fiancee Meg are about to have their parents meet for the first time over a Shabbat dinner in New York’s Upper West Side when accidental death – or murder? – gets in the way. With Meg’s Catholic parents due any moment, the family dinner spirals into a hilarious disaster. 84 minutes. English. Comedy. 2024.

Sept. 21: “The Property.” Tamas Regina and her granddaughter Mika embark on a journey to Poland to reclaim their family property seized during World War II. But their quest quickly unravels. Regina unexpectedly decides to abandon the mission entirely, leaving Mika lost and confused. To complicate matters further, an irritating distant relative keeps appearing at every turn. Just as Mika finds herself falling for a charming tour guide, Regina seizes the opportunity to pursue her own hidden agenda: finding her long-lost love, from whom she was separated 70 years ago. 108 minutes. Hebrew/Polish with English subtitles. Comedy/drama/romance. 2025.

Sept. 28: “Song of Ascent.” In the wake of the October 7th massacre in Israel, acclaimed singer-songwriter Matisyahu finds himself at the center of a cultural storm. This powerful documentary/concert film follows Matisyahu’s journey as he performs three sold-out shows in Israel while facing cancellations and protests at his U. S. tour dates because of rising anti-Israel sentiment. 86 minutes. English. Documentary. 2024.

Oct. 5: “Once Upon My Mother.” Based on a true story, this big-hearted, colorful and emotional film is a testament to the tenacious, all-encompassing love between a mother and son. When doctors tell Esther, a Moroccan Jewish mother, that her son, Roland, will never walk because of his club foot, she spends the next 40 years devoting herself to proving them wrong and ensuring that he not only walks, but also becomes wildly successful. 102 minutes. French with English subtitles. Comedy/drama. 2025.
